Max Clementson made his debut for England 7s in Malaga. The 23 year old gained a full time contract at the end of 2021 having most recently played for Hartpury RFC & Chinnor RFC.
The Malaga leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series was the first tournament of 2022 and saw England drawn in a group with Scotland, Fiji and current series leaders, South Africa. Unfortunately, Fiji pulled out of the competition at the last minute. With a 24-17 win against Scotland and a tough 43-0 loss to South Africa in the group, England came second in their group moving on to player France in the quarter finals. The quarter final proved to be a tight affair with England holding France off to come away 12-5 victors. Unfortunately for England, they were beaten 26-17 by Argentina in the semi's and faced a bronze final match with Australia.
England started the bronze final very slowly, going 10 points behind in the first 4 minutes. However, they rallied and ended up coming away as eventual bronze medallists with a 24-20 victory.
